GBH News Rooted internship offers hands-on experience in digital media production and storytelling, supporting the creation of engaging video content for public media platforms. You will assist with research, scripting, and editing tasks, gaining real-world experience alongside a collaborative team.

Ideal candidates are in an undergraduate or graduate program, have work authorization in the United States, and can provide their own computer and wifi access.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

GBH News creates and broadcast original content on multiple platforms including Radio, TV, and Digital. GBH News team covers and produces local and national news including in-depth feature stories and interviews, covering a wide range of topics.

JOB OVERVIEW

GBH News Rooted is the fresh reincarnation of two iconic programs: first Say Brother, then Basic Black. It continues their tradition as the longest-running publicTV series centered on communities of color. Tackles news, civil rights issues, but also highlights joy—street interviews, culture, culture and lighthearted moments. This internship offers hands-on experience in digital media production and storytelling, supporting the creation of engaging video and online content for public media platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in researching, pitching, and developing story ideas for digital and video content
• Support the production team with scripting, fact-checking, and organizing materials for segments
• Help edit video content using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro (training provided as needed)
• Participate in team meetings, contribute to brainstorming sessions, and provide feedback on ongoing projects
• Manage and update digital assets, transcripts, and metadata to support content organization and publishing

SKILL SET

• Familiarity with creating or contributing to video content for YouTube or digital platforms; interest in television production is a plus
• Strong writing and communication skills, with attention to accuracy, research, and basic AP Style
• Experience working on collaborative projects, especially involving video editing or storytelling
• Organized and dependable, with the ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated interest in inclusive, thoughtful storytelling and representing diverse perspectives

Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time)

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative areas.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

• Dates: January 25th to April 16th
• Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wifi.
• Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Salary Range

$17.00 - $17.00

Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.
