Location is hybrid at 1 Guest Street, Boston, MA. Candidates must have their own computer, be in an undergrad or grad program, and have US work authorization. Salary is $17/hour for 20 hours/week.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with AP Style and newsroom writing practices.
• Strong writing ability with clarity and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
• Good time management to juggle several stories.
• Experience with basic photography is a plus.

As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The digital team at GBH News is focused on writing stories for our website, with a heavy emphasis on exclusive and breaking news. This internship offers hands‑on experience in reporting and writing, with opportunities to write quick stories on deadline as well as multi‑day features and investigations, as well as the chance to work with the radio and video team to adapt the stories for those mediums.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, research and develop weekly story ideas.


• Report on everything from quick breaking news to longer features.


• Get feedback on your writing and reporting from experienced editors who will offer suggestions to give your story maximum impact.

SKILL SET

• Familiarity with basic reporting and writing, and AP Style.


• Intense curiosity, ability to ask the important questions and boil complex topics down to easily understandable sentences.


• Strong writing skills, with accuracy as the number one goal.


• Experience working independently.


• Good time management skills needed to juggle multiple story assignments at once.


• Ability to take good photos is a plus.

Paid Internship $17/hour(Part-time 20 hours)

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real‑world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative arenas.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

• Internship dates: January 25th to April 16th


• Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi‑Fi.


• Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Salary Range

$17.00 - $17.00

Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.
