Qualifications

• Board Certified in Gastroenterology with an active Maine medical license.
• Experience with lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.

Responsibilities

• Perform endoscopy procedures in the OR and outpatient clinic.
• Manage adult patients with a volume of 14-16 patients per day.

Job description

Pen Bay Medical Center is seeking a Locum Gastroenterology Physician to cover specific weeks from June through November 2025.

Schedule:

• Provider must be available to start June 2025 (July at the latest) - REQUIRED
• Monday to Friday, 8-hour days with 30-minute lunch
• No overtime unless preapproved

Specific Dates:

• June 16-20, 23-27, 30-July 3
• July 28-Aug 1
• August 4-8, 11-15, 18-22, 25-29
• September 2-5, 15-19, 22-26, 29-Oct 3
• October 6-10, 20-24
• November 24-26, 28

Details:

• Endoscopy procedures in the OR, possibly one day per week in the clinic
• Adult outpatient (office/clinic)
• Support staff: Full staff in the OR
• No weekends, no call
• Scope procedures required
• Clinic volume: 14-16 patients per day
• Onsite lab and X-ray
• EMR: Epic
• ERCP not required
• Preference for providers who perform advanced procedures, but not mandatory
• Travel expenses covered
• Credentialing timeframe: 90 days

Additional Questions:

• What anesthesia support is available? Both CRNA and anesthesiologist per gastroenterologist
• What therapeutic procedures are needed? Not necessarily advanced procedures
• Is anesthesia provided by a physician or CRNA? An anesthesiologist is present with a CRNA

Required Procedures:

• Lowers GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy

Required Types of Upper GI Endoscopy:

• With biopsy, foreign body removal, banding of varices, diagnostic

Additional Procedures:

• Preference for providers performing therapeutic procedures, but general is acceptable

Submission Requirements:

• Board Certified in Gastroenterology (ABMS or AOA)
• Institutional ADR
• Active Maine medical license
• Availability for listed dates
• ACLS and BLS certifications
• Details on advanced procedures performed
• COVID and flu vaccines
