Job summary

Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine seeks a Gastroenterology Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to join the team providing high-quality GI care across the Central Maine region. The APP will evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, order tests, coordinate care, educate patients, and collaborate with physicians and a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited NP/PA program.
• Current state licensure as NP/PA.
• National board certification (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA, or equivalent).
• DEA registration and prescriptive authority.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of gastrointestinal diseases and current treatment guidelines.
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Strong collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
• Diagnose and manage GI conditions (GERD, IBD, IBS, peptic ulcers, chronic liver disease, viral hepatitis, pancreatic disorders).
• Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, imaging, and pathology results.
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and monitor therapeutic response.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure evaluation for endoscopic procedures.
• Educate patients and families on disease management and nutrition.
• Coordinate referrals with PCPs, surgeons, oncology, radiology, nutrition and other specialists.
• Document encounters in the EMR and participate in quality improvement.
