Job summary

The Assistant Section Chief for Gastroenterology at the Nashville Campus holds a dual appointment with the VA Tennessee Valley Health System and the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

This physician leader supports both clinical excellence and administrative stewardship within the Gastroenterology Section - collaborating closely with the Section Chief and other clinical leaders.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent degree from an approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the United States.
• Residency training approved by GME leaders leading to board eligibility.
• Board certification in Internal Medicine and/or ABIM specialty.
• Board certification in Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology preferred.
• 5+ years of demonstrated upper/lower GI endoscopic experience.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Eligibility for a Vanderbilt University School of Medicine faculty appointment.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive internal medicine and gastroenterology care to Veterans in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Perform endoscopic procedures and oversee GI consultative services.
• Lead and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students; support academic activities.
• Advance quality assurance and improvement within Gastroenterology and coordinate with Vanderbilt.
• Oversee onboarding, training, and evaluation of allied providers and trainees.
• Collaborate with other service chiefs to coordinate interdisciplinary care.

Education

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent

Medical license in United States (full and unrestricted)

Residency training in approved core specialty

Board certified in Internal Medicine and/or ABIM Specialty Board

Board certified in Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology

Minimum 5 years GI endoscopy experience

Proficiency in English (spoken and written)

Eligibility for Vanderbilt University School of Medicine faculty appointment
