Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking a Meter Reader to accurately read and record gas meter consumption, manage disconnections for non-payment, and collect overdue payments. The role involves outdoor work at customer premises in Salisbury, MD or Georgetown, DE.

You will operate around potentially flammable substances and ensure code compliance, with a focus on safety and customer service. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.

Responsibilities

• Reads and records meter consumption accurately.
• Processes disconnection of service for non-payments.
• Collects overdue payments.
• Turns gas service on/off as required.
• Performs periodic Class I and II meter changes.
• Checks meter sets and regulator function for safety and code compliance.
• Identifies hazardous situations and takes appropriate action.
• Maintains fuel line and meter equipment.
• Investigates high/low bill complaints.
• Supports the CHOICE Program and customer engagement.
