Job summary

Southern Company Gas in Virginia Beach is seeking a Meter Helper who will assist 1st and 2nd Class Meter Repairmen, receive on-the-job training, and help install, test, calibrate, and maintain gas measurement systems including MV90.

This union position starts at an hourly rate of $25.46 and requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift up to 40 pounds, valid driver's license, and willingness to work overtime; normal hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic technical knowledge.
• Pass the Company’s DOT physical examination.
• Ability to work overtime on an as-needed basis.
• Equivalent academic education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to safety policies and procedures; works with others to ensure safe, efficient operations.
• Operates equipment including company vehicles, field provers, differential testers, and Toughbook computers for work management and documentation.
• Maintains strong interpersonal skills to work independently and in a team; follows verbal and written instructions.
• Communicates clearly and professionally to transfer information.
• Performs data entry and documentation using Toughbook systems.
• Reports to work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties at the workstation.
• Works Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (subject to needs).
• Assists with inventory activities including basic inventory control and asset tracking.
• Performs general maintenance duties and other tasks as assigned.
