Job summary

Volkert Inc. is seeking a Civil Gas Engineer for our Midwest Region based in Lexington, KY. The role focuses on designing natural gas transmission and distribution systems and leading a team to deliver safe, compliant infrastructure projects.

You will prepare plans, review cost estimates, and conduct risk assessments while coordinating with city officials, contractors, and field staff. A PE is preferred, with 1–3 years in gas engineering and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• PE license preferred or ability to obtain.
• 1 - 3 years of experience in gas engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Post offer fit for duty evaluation to ensure the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the role.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory MVR.

Responsibilities

• Design and oversee natural gas transmission and distribution systems.
• Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for gas infrastructure projects.
• Supervise technicians and drafters in preparing gas system plans.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Prepare and submit required documentation and permits.
• Perform site inspections and monitor construction progress.
• Use CAD and other engineering software for system design and modeling.
• Communicate with stakeholders including city officials, contractors, and the public.
• Provide technical support and training to junior staff.
