Job summary

DTE Energy is seeking a Distribution Operator I to lead a crew on construction and maintenance tasks across gas facilities. You will inspect contractor work, install vaults, locate pipes, operate and maintain shop equipment, and perform tie-ins and fusing of plastic mains, while ensuring safe, compliant operations.

The role requires outdoor work in all weather, strong physical ability, a valid CDL A with Air Brake endorsement (or ability to obtain), and the capacity to pass required tests and

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Must pass DOT Drug Test, DOT Physical, and respirator fit test.
• Must complete a Background Check and pre-employment assessments.
• Must obtain or already possess CDL A with Air Brake Endorsement; temporary permit if needed.
• Able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
• Willing to work odd shifts, on-call, overtime per union terms.
• Able to lift up to 95 lbs and climb in/out of excavation holes.
• Able to communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Lead a crew on construction or maintenance work and inspect contractor work.
• Construct and install vaults; pipe locating and gas main tie-ins.
• Fuse plastic mains and branch saddle tie-ins; perform leak surveys.
• Furnish sketches for construction permits and records.
• Relight domestic appliances and assist in field operations.
• Be available for bidding restrictions and adapt to shift needs.
