Job summary

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company are seeking an Engineering Technician to design, layout, and maintain overhead and underground electric and gas distribution systems. You will develop engineering designs, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure accurate documentation for safe and reliable energy service.

The role requires an associate degree in drafting or related field and at least 12 months of related experience, with proficiency in CAD

Qualifications

• Associate degree in drafting or a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 12 months of experience as an Engineering Technician Trainee or equivalent
• Qualified for entry into the classification through the company’s Employee Performance Review Program and meet training standards

Responsibilities

• Design and develop overhead and underground electric and gas distribution systems to support safe, reliable service
• Prepare engineering drawings, layouts, and construction plans using CAD software
• Perform system calculations (e.g., pipe/cable sizing, pressures, voltages) to support construction and maintenance
• Develop cost estimates, bills of materials, and project documentation including permits and easements
• Coordinate projects with internal teams, contractors, and public agencies to resolve design conflicts
• Conduct field visits to verify site conditions and support proper installation of infrastructure
• Maintain and update system documentation after project completion
• Monitor and communicate project progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders
• Follow safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work environment
