Job summary

Rhode Island Energy seeks a Gas Control System Operator to monitor and control the Rhode Island gas distribution system using SCADA and procedures to ensure safe, reliable supply to customers. The role reports to the Supervisor, Gas Control Operations and involves coordinating with multiple internal teams and field personnel.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, demonstrate strong data interpretation and communication skills, and be prepared for rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Ability to assimilate data from various sources and act under stress.
• Strong written and oral communication; certification readiness including Operator Qualifications.
• Analytical skills to evaluate data and manage risk; weather pattern assessment ability.
• Ability to work rotating shifts with minimal schedule notice.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the Rhode Island natural gas distribution system.
• Use SCADA to ensure safe and reliable gas flows and coordinate with internal teams.
• Monitor daily supply requirements and communicate load/weather changes to Gas Supply, Planning, and Engineering.
• Respond to SCADA alarms, log shift activities, and coordinate after-hours support.
• Maintain procedures per Control Room Management and GIS records; report gas quality issues.
• Dispatch gas supplies from interstate pipelines and peak shaving facilities as needed.
• Participate in field training and emergency response processes.
