Job summary

Tareen Dermatology is seeking a motivated Gap Year Clinical Assistant to support dermatology providers in a fast-paced outpatient setting. You will gain hands-on patient care experience, participate in medical documentation, clinical procedures and daily clinic operations across multiple Twin Cities metro locations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, strong communication and organizational skills, and a willingness to travel to different clinic sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree must be completed before start date.
• Interest in pursuing medical school or physician assistant school.
• Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 14 months.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in typing, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong computer skills.
• Professional demeanor and respect for patient privacy.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
• Willingness to travel to alternate Tareen Dermatology clinic locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for visits and escort to examination rooms.
• Interview patients and verify medical history, medications, vital signs and visit reasons.
• Document medical histories, exams, assessments and treatment plans with providers.
• Record clinical visits and procedures in the EMR under the provider’s direction.
• Ensure clinical data, labs, test results and provider interpretations are recorded.
• Generate and submit orders as directed by the provider.
• Communicate pathology results and other clinical information to patients as directed.
• Answer and return patient calls promptly and professionally.
• Perform procedural site preparation per physician orders and protocols.
• Prepare, label and transport tissue specimens per pathology procedures.
• Apply postoperative dressings and provide post‑procedure instructions.
• Serve as liaison between providers, patients and staff.
• Prepare, clean, organize and stock examination rooms.
• Support efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
• Follow HIPAA, OSHA and infection-control requirements.
• Travel to alternate clinic locations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
