Job summary

SEGA of America seeks a Translator I to deliver top-class Japanese-to-English localizations for Western markets. You will translate game text, scripts, and related materials, working closely with editors and a team of translators in a hybrid in-office setting.

Candidates should have 1-2+ years of translation experience, fluency in Japanese, and basic English grammar skills. You will create preparation materials, maintain glossaries, and participate in project meetings and voiceover sessions as

Qualifications

• In-office attendance is required for supervision and collaboration.
• Typically has 1-2+ years of translation experience.
• Fluency in Japanese (written and verbal) with basic English grammar.

Responsibilities

• Translate game text, scripts, manuals, web content, QA bugs from Japanese to English with accuracy and context.
• Create preparation materials for localization, such as terms lists, character descriptions, voiceover scripts, and related docs.
• Become familiar with assigned projects by playing builds, creating summaries, and sharing info with the project team.
• Collaborate with editors, translators, and project team members; communicate to clarify game text and resolve issues.
• Coordinate with Project Leads to track progress and translation guidance.
• Attend daily/weekly project meetings and voiceover sessions as needed.
• Update and maintain translation style guides, glossaries, and story bibles for assigned projects.
• Stay current with video game terminology and cultural nuances.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Project Leads and Localization Management.
