Job summary

Robert Simon Fine Art in New York, NY, is seeking a Gallery Manager to oversee daily gallery operations, inventory, and research related to Old Master paintings and Arts of the Americas.

The role involves managing the inventory, coordinating shipping, updating the website and social media, and supporting sales and client engagements. A degree in art history or related field with 2–3 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Art History, Museum/Arts Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in a gallery, auction house, museum, or similar arts environment.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for Old Master paintings and/or the Arts of the Americas is a strong plus; curiosity and willingness to learn are essential.
  • Detail-oriented, methodical, and exceptionally organized; able to manage multiple projects and switching tasks.
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Proactive communicator with collectors, museum professionals, and gallery contacts.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently or in a small team.
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with Photoshop, InDesign, gallery-management software, and other digital tools is a plus.
  • Reading knowledge of another European language, especially Italian or Spanish, is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform practical gallery tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director and President in gallery administration and operations.
  • Manage gallery inventory, including inventory database and digital artwork files.
  • Oversee incoming and outgoing artworks and coordinate shipping.
  • Maintain the gallery website, online selling platforms, social media (Instagram), and contacts database.
  • Manage daily gallery operations, opening/closing, phones and emails, inquiries.
  • Assist with sales presentations and client appointments, including preparing materials and hanging artworks.
  • Coordinate framing or conservation as needed.
  • Assist with consignment agreements, appraisals, and paperwork.
  • Prepare for art fairs including logistics, insurance, documentation, and label production.
  • Assist the Director with research and catalogue entries.
  • Catalogue artworks and conduct provenance research using various sources.
