Position Overview

A privately owned contemporary art gallery is conducting a confidential search for a Gallery Director to lead its program, sales, and overall operations. This role carries full responsibility for artistic direction, collector relationships, and commercial performance.

The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of autonomy and discretion, serving as the gallery’s principal representative to collectors, artists, and advisors. The position requires sound judgment, refined taste, and the ability to manage both creative and commercial priorities at a senior level.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and maintain a rigorous, museum-level exhibition program aligned with the gallery’s long‑term vision.
  • Own private sales and collector relationships, overseeing all commercial activity and revenue generation.
  • Represent artists thoughtfully and strategically, supporting placement, visibility, and career development.
  • Maintain the gallery’s positioning, reputation, and public presence with consistency and discretion.
  • Oversee staff, day-to-day operations, and financial performance with full accountability.
  • Support sustainable growth, market relevance, and long-term value creation.
Requirements
  • 5 + years as Senior gallery director or equivalent leadership role within the contemporary art market.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary art, artists, and market trends.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate clients.
  • Demonstrated success in high-value sales and long-term collector relationship management.
  • Established relationships with collectors, advisors, and artists at a senior level.
  • Independent, measured, and accountable; comfortable operating without extensive oversight.
  • Discreet, authoritative, and professionally reserved with strong judgment and taste.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, and during special gallery events.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid US Work Authorization
