Job summary

The Shirley Fiterman Art Center at BMCC, part of The City University of New York, seeks a Curatorial Assistant to support the exhibition program and related events at Fiterman Hall in lower Manhattan. This role reports to the Director and engages with artists, staff, and campus partners to advance the center’s cultural mission.

Responsibilities include managing install/deinstall, digital content, budgeting, vendor coordination, and outreach materials while ensuring compliance with campus

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Experience in a museum, gallery, or non-profit setting is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Meticulous and detail-oriented approach to all tasks.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day operations of the exhibition program and events.
• Manage five exhibitions per year, coordinating with artists, partners, and staff, including installation/deinstallation.
• Maintain gallery space operations in collaboration with the Director.
• Oversee digital aspects of exhibitions: website, social media, databases, and digital files.
• Coordinate hiring and scheduling of art handlers, shippers, and outside vendors.
• Organize loans, consignments, insurance, and artwork image documentation.
• Assist with press materials, development, and outreach including invites and newsletters.
• Ensure compliance with campus policies and procedures.
• Assist with gallery budgeting, invoicing, and purchasing.
