Job summary

The Sheldon seeks a Gallery Director to lead its gallery program, drive curation, sales, and operations, and partner with development on donor relations and grants. The right candidate will foster community ties and build programs that engage diverse audiences.

Responsibilities include exhibition planning, budgeting, installation coordination, and education outreach across The Sheldon’s arts initiatives, with a focus on collaboration with programming and marketing teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Some supervisory or team-leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in fundraising and donor relations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the gallery program, including curation, sales, and day-to-day operations.
  • Manage the gallery budget and collaborate with the development team on fundraising and grants.
  • Coordinate exhibition layouts, shipping, framing, and signage; oversee installation.
  • Build community relationships and event partnerships around exhibitions.
  • Lead education and engagement initiatives with the Programming team, including student tours and community activities.
  • Organize gallery-related lectures, travel for guest speakers, and related programs.
  • Supervise gallery staff and coordinate with marketing on materials and outreach.
  • Ensure safety and care of The Sheldon’s Permanent Collection and collaborate across programs.
