Job description

Gallery Coordinator:

Lilienthal Gallery is a contemporary art space based in Knoxville, TN, that exhibits diverse styles and mediums, from both international and local origins, both established and emerging artists. The gallery’s programming includes artists collected by the Smithsonian, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and shown at the MoMA.

As the gallery grows in the coming year, we are seeking a Gallery Coordinator to actively contribute to our collaborative work environment. As a small business, all gallery staff are involved with a variety of projects and wear many hats. Self-starters with ambitious ideas are welcomed! Bring your creative energy and love of art.

The Gallery Coordinator serves as a key member of Lilienthal Gallery, supporting daily operations, exhibitions programming, visitor and collector relations, registrar tasks, and marketing assistance.

The gallery hosts four exhibitions a year with both local and international artists. Lilienthal also offers art advisory services to work directly with clients like interior designers and architects to provide custom curation for commercial and residential projects.

In the coming year, the gallery will move to a larger location in downtown Knoxville. As such, there are growth opportunities as the gallery develops the scale of its programming and roster of artists. The Gallery Coordinator will play an important role in this transitional period to help bring the gallery to its next chapter in the Onyx Art Hotel.

  • Greet gallery visitors and provide them with information about the exhibition and any other programs they may inquire about (art advisory, mural alley, art acquisitions)
  • Support First Fridays (Knoxville’s monthly extended gallery hours), depending on your comfort level with public speaking, presentation opportunities are available
  • Inventory Management (20% of weekly tasks):
  • Maintain updated records of incoming and outgoing inventory
  • Upload high-quality images, dimensions, medium, price, and any other relevant artwork information to content management systems
  • Condition reports (upon arrival and departure of artworks)

  • Maintain and update website content, ensuring artwork details, exhibition listings, and artist bios are accurate.
  • Input and organize artwork data across gallery Content Management Systems (CMS) such as ArtCloud and Artsy
  • Website management: update exhibitions, artist bios, check to make sure all information is correct, and keep up to date.
  • Copywriting & Social Media (10% of weekly tasks):
  • Every month, the team will meet to plan social media and prepare the content to schedule for the next few weeks
  • Assist in social media management and creation through photographing events, videography, engaging video content ideas, and curating a crisp, elegant visual identity (exact role will be discussed in interview, as best fits the individual’s skills)
  • Write engaging marketing copy for promotional materials, email communications, and social media posts.
  • Social Media & Content Creation (10% of weekly tasks):
  • Collaborate with the gallery team to develop and publish high-quality visual content (photos and videos) for social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube)
  • Capture high-resolution imagery and video of artworks, exhibition installs, and behind-the-scenes gallery moments
  • Write engaging captions, artist spotlights, and exhibition announcements aligned with gallery branding
  • Monitor social media interactions, responding to inquiries and engaging with collectors and the local art community
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, Marketing, or related field
