Cantwell’s Bridge Hotel and Tavern in Odessa, DE is seeking a customer-focused Host to welcome guests, seat them, and help ensure an exceptional dining experience. You will organize the floor plan, manage reservations and waitlists, and assist with front-of-house duties to support a smooth service flow.

Candidates should be friendly, able to clearly greet and farewell guests, and communicate needs to servers and managers. Experience is a plus but not required.

  We are looking for a customer-focused Host to join our team! You will be welcoming guests, seating them in the restaurant, and helping ensure they enjoy an exceptional dining experience. Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities, you rely on your excellent organization and communication skills to bring your best each day for yourself, restaurant staff, and guests. Greet customers with smiles and warm welcome. Organize the floor plan, reservations, and waitlist. Make popcorn as well as keeping that area clean. Clean tables when necessary to seat next guests. Answer the phones.

Responsibilities:

• Greet guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas.
• Provide guests with menus.
• Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seatings.
• Inform guests of current promotions and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staff.
• Manage the flow of guests into the dining and bar areas, provide accurate wait times to incoming guests if appropriate.
• Answer the phone.
• Keep the host stand neat, tidy, and presentable for guests.
• Make Popcorn

Qualifications:

• Previous restaurant hosting or serving experience preferred, not required.
• Friendly and customer-focused personality
• Ability to articulate clear greetings and farewells to guests, as well as being able to understand requests for assistance.
• Ability to clearly communicate guests’ needs to Servers, Bussers, Managers, etc.
• Ability to effectively communicate on the telephone.

Compensation: $15.00 per hour

The Cantwell’s Bridge Hotel and Tavern was built by prominent businessman, William Polk, in 1822 and was operated as such for the next 100 years. The simple, clean, classic Federal lines denote a sophisticated style rather than that of a “country” inn typical of small towns. Merchants, ship captains and visitors to the busy port town of Cantwell’s Bridge would have found comfort in the accommodations offered at this fine establishment. During Colonial times, most towns on busy travel routes had several taverns, and Odessa was no exception, with five taverns in addition to the beautiful Cantwell’s Tavern.
