Job summary

TAE Technologies in California seeks an engineer to advance long pulse plasma sources and beamline components, collaborating with experimentalists and computational staff. You will design and test neutral beam injection subsystems, integrate vacuum/cryogenic/cooling systems, and develop diagnostics for high-power NB devices.

Required BS in engineering; MS preferred with NB/accelerators R&D. The role offers a comprehensive compensation package and a hybrid onsite work setup in Southern California.

Qualifications

• Direct experience with neutral beam injection systems and/or ion sources.
• Experience with magnetically confined plasma and high vacuum systems.
• Familiarity with simulation codes and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and optimize neutral beam injection systems, including ion sources, accelerators, neutralizers, beamlines, and beam dumps.
• Specify and integrate vacuum, cryogenic, cooling, and gas handling subsystems.
• Collaborate with plasma physicists to meet experimental performance requirements.
• Interface with controls, diagnostics, and data acquisition teams.
• Oversee vendor interactions, component testing, and acceptance reviews.
• Develop diagnostics for high-power NB systems (secondary electron emission detectors, calorimeters, optical diagnostics, etc.).
