Job summary

TAE Technologies, headquartered in Southern California, is seeking an engineer to design and develop neutral beam injection systems and high-voltage components. You will collaborate with physicists, prototype, test, and commission beamline systems, contributing to a leading fusion research program.

The role requires 5–10 years in engineering, hands-on experience with beam systems and vacuum technology, and proficiency in SolidWorks/Catia plus COMSOL/ANSYS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in design/mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of professional engineering experience (design, analysis, test or manufacturing).
• Experience with SolidWorks or Catia; familiarity with simulation tools (COMSOL, ANSYS).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop neutral beam injection systems, including ion sources, beam optics, vacuum system and beam dumps.
• Design high-voltage components (100 kV–1 MV class systems).
• Develop thermal management solutions for high-power-density components.
• Collaborate with physicists to integrate beam line components in the NB injector.
• Prototyping, testing, and commissioning of beamline systems.

About The Role

• Design and develop neutral beam injection systems, including ion sources, beam optics, vacuum system and beam dumps
• Design high-voltage components (100 kV–1 MV class systems)
• Develop thermal management solutions for high-power-density components
• Collaborate with physicists to integrate beam line components in the NB injector
• Prototyping, testing, and commissioning of beamline systems

About You

• Experience with one or more: Charged particle beam systems, Plasma sources (especially ion sources), High-voltage engineering, Vacuum systems
• Good knowledge of SolidWorks or Catia
• Familiarity with simulation tools: COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, or similar
• 5-10 years professional experience in an engineering role (design, analysis, test or manufacturing)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with neutral beam injection systems or fusion devices
• Knowledge of: RF ion sources or negative ion generation, High power flux dumps, Magnetic confinement systems (tokamaks, stellarators)
• Hands-on experience with: High-power test systems, Diagnostics (Langmuir probes, spectroscopy, beam diagnostics), High voltage systems

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in design/mechanical engineering or related field

At TAE Technologies, we consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and job-related knowledge, training; licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (non-Sr., Sr.,). The compensation range for these roles are $135,000 - $160,000.
