Job summary

TAE Technologies, Inc is seeking an experienced engineer to design and develop neutral beam injection systems, including ion sources and beam optics. You will work with vacuum systems, high‑voltage components, and thermal management for high‑power density applications.

You will collaborate with physicists to integrate beam‑line components, prototype and test systems, and contribute to successful commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in design/mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Experience with one or more of the following: Charged particle beam systems, Plasma sources (ion sources), High‑voltage engineering, Vacuum systems.
• Good knowledge of SolidWorks or Catia.
• Familiarity with simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, or similar.
• 5–10 years professional experience in an engineering role (design, analysis, test, or manufacturing).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop neutral beam injection systems, including ion sources, beam optics, vacuum systems and beam dumps.
• Design high‑voltage components (100 kV–1 MV class systems).
• Develop thermal‑management solutions for high‑power‑density components.
• Collaborate with physicists to integrate beam‑line components in the NB injector.
• Prototype, test, and commission beam‑line systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of:
  • RF ion sources or negative ion generation
  • High‑power flux dumps
  • Magnetic confinement systems (tokamaks, stellarators)
• Hands‑on experience with:
  • High‑power test systems
  • Diagnostics (Langmuir probes, spectroscopy, beam diagnostics)
  • High‑voltage systems

Compensation range: $135,000 – $160,000, with potential equity participation.
