Job summary

Xcimer Energy in Denver, CO, is seeking a Computational Physicist (Fluid Dynamics) to advance multi-material radiation hydrodynamics modeling for inertial confinement fusion. You will implement robust IDP-based CFD methods, work with deal.II, and contribute to high-performance simulations.

Collaborate with physicists and software engineers, publish findings, and help validate numerical schemes across extreme regimes.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Physics, or related field.
  • Strong background in numerical analysis for PDEs, especially fluid dynamics.
  • Hands-on experience with invariant-domain preserving (IDP) methods.
  • Experience with deal.II or similar finite element frameworks.
  • Experience developing scientific software in C++.
  • Experience in HPC environments (MPI-based parallelism).
  • Familiarity with multi-material CFD modeling.
  • Experience with verification and validation of numerical methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to publish.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance multi-material modeling for ICF simulations.
  • Couple hydrodynamics with radiation transport and EOS/opacity models.
  • Develop certifiably robust IDP numerical methods for CFD.
  • Analyze accuracy, stability, and convergence of numerical schemes.
  • Collaborate with physicists and engineers; contribute to publications and internal docs.
  • Participate in verification & validation activities with the team.
