Job summary

Bodycote plc in Wichita, KS seeks a Heat Treating Technician to support heat treating operations under the General Manager. Role may be filled at Level C based on experience; prepares loads, monitors furnaces, and maintains safety and quality standards. Requires 2–3 years of machine operator experience and ITAR/compliance awareness.

Candidates must pass drug screen, work 40+ hours weekly, and be eligible for ITAR on a U.S. site.

Qualifications

• ITAR compliance required; US citizen or permanent resident.

• Must have manufacturing background.
• 2–3 years of machine operator experience (CNC, heavy machinery).
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English; safety-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Prepare work for processing; load/unload furnaces, bins, fixtures and baskets.
• Monitor heat treating operations per procedures and paperwork.
• Promote safety and good housekeeping; report irregularities to supervisor.
• Handle customer inventory with care and responsibility; follow rules.
• Available for 2nd shift: 3:00pm–11:30pm, Mon–Fri.

Summary:

Based in Wichita, KS, the actual title of the position will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the General Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Heat Treating Technician. Depending on your skills and experience, this role may be filled at one of the following levels:

Level C: Entry Level: 0 to 24 months of heat treating experience. You will be expected to learn and grow in your role, with guidance from senior team members.

• Assists with operations, control, and monitoring of heat treating and related equipment as required and as written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepares work for processing; loads and unloads furnaces, bins, fixtures, baskets, etc.
• Bring any unusual problems or irregularities to the attention of the supervisor.
• Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
• This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customers’ inventory and, as such, will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.

• This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have manufacturing background.
• Must have 2-3 years of Machine Operator experience (CNC, heavy machinery, etc)
• Must have stable work history.
• HMI Control knowledge preferred.
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operation certification.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Must be able to work 2nd shift: 3:00pm - 11:30pm, Monday-Friday.

• Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time in an industrial environment.
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Ability to hear in person and via phone.
