Job summary

Based in Wichita, KS, Bodycote seeks a Heat Treating Technician to support our heat-treatment operations under the direction of the General Manager. This entry-level role offers on-the-job learning and growth in a safety-sensitive environment.

You will load furnaces, monitor equipment, and ensure proper handling of customer inventory while adhering to procedures and quality standards. The position requires the ability to work full-time, pass a pre-employment screen, and obtain forklift

Qualifications

• ITAR compliance and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic metallurgical knowledge and ability to read procedures.
• Willingness to work overtime and various shifts.
• Must maintain forklift certification.

Responsibilities

• Loads and unloads furnaces, following procedures and shop traveler.
• Monitors heat treating equipment and reports anomalies.
• Maintains safety and good housekeeping on site.
• Assists with inventory care and protects customer inventory.
• Communicates effectively with supervisors and team members.

Summary

Based in Wichita, KS, the actual title of the position will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the General Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed.

Skills

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Heat Treating Technician. Depending on your skills and experience, this role may be filled at one of the following levels:

Level C: Entry Level: 0 to 24 months of heat treating experience. You will be expected to learn and grow in your role, with guidance from senior team members.

• Assists with operations, control, and monitoring of heat treating and related equipment as required and as written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.

Essential Job Functions (Duties And Responsibilities)

• Prepares work for processing; loads and unloads furnaces, bins, fixtures, baskets, etc.
• Bring any unusual problems or irregularities to the attention of the supervisor.
• Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
• This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customers’ inventory and, as such, will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.

Qualifications

• This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have working knowledge of metallurgy, temperatures, etc.
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operation certification.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Physical & Mental Demands

• Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time in an industrial environment.
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Ability to hear in person and via phone.
