A growing private equity firm is seeking a Fund Controller to lead its fund accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance activities. This is a highly visible position that will work closely with the CFO, investment professionals, investor relations, and external service providers.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical accountant with private equity or alternative investment experience who enjoys taking ownership, improving processes, and working in a hands-on, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee fund accounting and financial reporting across multiple private equity funds and related entities
- Manage the quarterly and annual close process, including review of NAV calculations, financial statements, capital account statements, and supporting schedules
- Review capital calls, distributions, management fees, carried interest allocations, expense allocations, and investment activity
- Partner closely with third-party fund administrators to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Prepare and review investor reporting, fund financial statements, and other limited partner deliverables
- Coordinate annual audits and tax processes with external auditors, tax advisors, and fund administrators
- Support cash management, capital activity, and fund liquidity planning
- Maintain and strengthen fund accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting processes
- Assist with fundraising, investor diligence, and other strategic firm initiatives
- Serve as a key resource to internal investment, legal, tax, finance, and operations teams
- Mentor and develop junior accounting staff, as applicable
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA strongly preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful private equity, venture capital, hedge fund, fund administration, or alternative investment experience
- Strong understanding of private equity fund accounting, partnership accounting, capital calls, distributions, management fees, carried interest, and investor reporting
- Experience working with fund administrators, auditors, tax providers, and other outside partners
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with fund accounting or reporting systems
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Polished communicator with a collaborative, hands-on approach
