  • Lead or support discovery, requirements development, process analysis, and architecture discussions.
  • Develop executive-level and technical presentations articulating solutions and benefits.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and platform partners to evaluate needs and demonstrations.
  • Identify and shape use cases across IT, OT, customer, regulatory, and sustainability domains.
  • Mentor junior team members and produce high-quality deliverables.

Job description

To function as the Functional/Technical Consultant and Industry Specialist for the Energy & Utilities sector in North America. This includes working with Utility Clients as well as solution and platform partners within and outside HCLTech to create Solutions to address IT, OT and Regulatory functions across the entire Energy & Utilities (E&U) value chain. It also includes providing functional and solution strategies and architectures that help HCLTech to construct compelling value propositions as part of the ideation, proposal and bid development process for client organizations in Energy & Utilities.

The Person (Knowledge/Skills/Experience)
  • 15+ years of experience in Energy & Utilities consulting, with a proven track record supporting North American utility clients and a strong understanding of industry structure, Federal and State/Provincial regulatory authorities, and utility business drivers.
  • Strong understanding of the utility value chain, including IT, OT and regulatory functions across electric, gas, water, and wastewater utilities.
  • Knowledge of sustainability drivers, regulatory requirements, systems, and technologies that support utility carbon reduction, resiliency, modernization, and sustainability goals.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of an organization, including senior executives, operational leaders, business users, technical teams, and external partners.
  • Recognized thought leader capable of conceptualizing solutions, developing operating and solution models, and facilitating cross-functional discussions that lead to practical client outcomes.
  • Previous consulting experience with demonstrated ability to support ideation, proposal development, bid responses, client presentations, and solution value propositions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document regulatory, operational, and technology processes in a way that drives shared understanding and stakeholder alignment.
  • Demonstrable experience in business process mapping, regulatory process mapping, operating model development, and process optimization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, platform partners, and third-party technology providers, while also operating independently when required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple goals and manage time, tasks, and deliverables effectively in support of client and business development priorities.
  • Understanding of IT and OT technologies and processes related to one or more Energy & Utilities functions:
  • Electric generation, transmission and distribution, AMI, customer billing, and customer experience solutions.
  • Natural gas transmission, distribution, metering, billing, and customer care.
  • Raw water, water treatment, water distribution, metering, billing, customer care, wastewater systems, monitoring, and control systems.
  • Experience or familiarity with enterprise and operational support systems such as ERP, AMS, WMS, customer care and billing, and field/mobile work management.
  • Experience with Electricity and/or Gas Markets and Energy Trading Systems is desirable
  • Experience or familiarity with utility operational technologies such as telematics, SCADA, GMS, EMS, ADMS, GIS, data historians, smart grid solutions, distribution/substation automation, and DERMS.
  • Experience or familiarity with smart metering solutions including AMI/AMR, wireless communications, IoT sensors, and data analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems, or a relevant field of study, or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree, PE designation, and relevant IT or utility industry certifications are considered a plus.
  • Provide consulting and advisory services to North American Energy & Utilities clients, drawing on industry experience, regulatory knowledge, value chain understanding, operational processes, and utility support systems.
  • Serve as a functional and technical liaison between client stakeholders, HCLTech sales and delivery teams, subject matter experts, platform partners, and third-party technology providers.
  • Translate client business challenges into practical solution strategies that create value, improve performance, support growth, and strengthen operational outcomes.
  • Lead or support discovery, requirements development, process analysis, solution design, architecture discussions, and value proposition development for Energy & Utilities opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver executive-level and technical presentations that clearly articulate proposed solutions, architectures, business benefits, assumptions, and implementation considerations.
  • Collaborate with internal HCLTech teams and external technology providers to evaluate client needs, define solution options, describe platform capabilities, and support solution demonstrations.
  • Proactively identify, shape, and support Energy & Utilities use cases across IT, OT, customer, regulatory, sustainability, grid modernization, and operational improvement domains.
  • Work collaboratively with onsite, onshore, and offshore HCLTech teams to align functional direction, technical delivery, client expectations, and proposal commitments.
  • Contribute utility industry knowledge across HCLTech teams and support development of junior team members through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and review of deliverables.
  • Produce high-quality written deliverables, including process flows, operating models, solution architectures, functional designs, regulatory process maps, presentations, and client-ready recommendations.
  • Support platform, vendor, and technology assessments by evaluating solution fit, integration requirements, business process impacts, technical feasibility, and alignment with client objectives.
  • Design or evaluate third-party tools and partner solutions to ensure appropriate incorporation into overall solution architectures and integration strategies.
  • Provide technology thought leadership in areas such as cloud, analytics, IoT, automation, smart grid, enterprise applications, and operational technologies supporting IT and OT transformation.
  • Identify project, proposal, delivery, technology, and client-related risks and elevate issues appropriately to support timely resolution and informed decision-making.
