Job Title: Fun In The Afternoon Program Employee
Reports To: Fun In The Afternoon Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Standard Hours per Week: Part-Time; based on program needs
Scheduled Days per Year: Based on the school calendar and after-school program schedule

Position Purpose

The FITA Program Employee provides a safe, nurturing, engaging, and Christ-centered environment for students following the regular school day. This position is responsible for actively supervising students, facilitating age-appropriate activities, supporting homework and enrichment opportunities, maintaining appropriate behavior expectations, and assisting with daily program operations.

The FITA Employee works collaboratively with the FITA Director, faculty, staff, students, and parents to ensure that students receive quality care in an environment that reflects Providence Christian Academy’s mission, values, and commitment to the spiritual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of its students.

Essential Functions
Student Supervision and Safety
  • Provide active and attentive supervision of students at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, positive, and welcoming environment.
  • Monitor students during indoor activities, outdoor play, snack time, transitions, restroom breaks, and dismissal.
  • Follow all school safety, emergency, security, and student supervision procedures.
  • Ensure students remain in designated areas and are appropriately supervised during all activities.
  • Follow established student sign-in and sign-out procedures.
  • Ensure students are released only to authorized individuals in accordance with school procedures.
  • Report accidents, injuries, safety concerns, or other incidents promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Never leave students unattended or unsupervised.
Christian Character and Spiritual Environment
  • Model Christian character, integrity, kindness, patience, respect, and responsibility.
  • Support and uphold the mission, values, and Christian principles of Providence Christian Academy.
  • Encourage students to demonstrate Christ-like behavior toward peers and adults.
  • Provide a positive environment that encourages spiritual growth and appropriate character development.
  • Participate in prayer, Scripture, devotional, or character-building activities as directed by the program.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.
Student Activities and Engagement
  • Plan and/or facilitate age-appropriate activities that promote creativity, learning, social development, and physical activity.
  • Provide engaging activities such as:
    • Arts and crafts

    • Games and recreational activities

    • Outdoor play

    • Reading

    • Homework support

    • STEM and enrichment activities

    • Group activities

  • Encourage positive student participation, cooperation, teamwork, and respectful interaction.
  • Modify activities as appropriate to meet the developmental needs of students.

Maintain a positive and engaging environment that encourages student participation.

Assist students with homework and provide appropriate academic support when needed.

Classroom and Behavior Management
  • Establish and maintain clear and age-appropriate behavioral expectations.
  • Use positive behavior-management strategies consistent with school policies.
  • Encourage students to resolve conflicts appropriately and respectfully.
  • Address minor behavior concerns calmly, consistently, and professionally.
  • Communicate significant or recurring behavioral concerns to the After-School Program Coordinator.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom, playground, and activity-area procedures.
  • Ensure classrooms and activity areas are clean, organized, and ready for student use.
  • Assist with transitions between activities and locations.
Communication and Customer Service
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Provide parents and guardians with appropriate information regarding their child's participation and daily activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student, family, and school information.
  • Follow the established chain of command when reporting concerns or seeking assistance.
  • Respond appropriately and professionally to questions and concerns from parents and guardians.
  • Promote positive relationships between the after-school program and the broader Providence community.
Program Operations
  • Assist with daily opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Prepare and organize materials and supplies needed for activities.
  • Monitor and appropriately use school equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Assist with snack and meal procedures in accordance with school policies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and student accountability records as required.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and FITA Program guidelines.
  • Complete required training and professional development.
  • Assist with special events, extended-care activities, and other program needs as assigned.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the After-School Program Coordinator, Principal, or school administration.
  • Assist other faculty and staff members as needed to support the overall mission and operation of Providence Christian Academy.
