Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a technician to inspect, test, and troubleshoot fire alarm and suppression systems in commercial settings. You will read drawings, communicate findings to customers, and ensure safety compliance.

The role requires multiple fire-safety licenses, NFPA experience, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A full-time on-site position includes comprehensive benefits and travel to various job sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety as a technician.
• Fully licensed inspector with NICET 2 FA or CSA FA2 and related licenses.
• Minimum 2 years of NFPA inspections experience.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable codes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and troubleshoot fire alarms, sprinklers, and suppression systems per NFPA standards and local codes.
• Conduct device activation and system functionality checks.
• Document inspection and testing results accurately.
• Identify deficiencies and perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Travel to job sites as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Independently perform inspection, testing, and basic troubleshooting of fire alarms, fire sprinklers, and fire suppression systems per NFPA standards and local codes.
• Conduct device activation, system functionality checks, and alarm verification.
• Accurately document inspection and testing results.
• Identify deficiencies and perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Communicate findings with customers and internal teams.
• Interpret system drawings, layouts, and technical documents.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in the fire and life safety industry as a technician.
• A Fully licensed inspector must have the following licenses: NICET 2 FA or CSA FA2 License, Sprinkler Fitter State & CSA, ASCR2 license, Kitchen Suppression & Extinguisher CSA, KHFE2 License, Fire Hydrant, PPRBD License, Backflow ASSE License.
• Minimum of 2 years experience performing NFPA inspections.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable codes.
• Independently capable in core technical functions.
• Able to complete standard jobs without direct supervision.

Other Duties

• Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and climbing ladders.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Use of hand tools and testing equipment under supervision.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.

Compensation

• $40 - $45 / per hour DOE
