Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I, Specimen Processor for the IU Health M-Pathology Lab. This role provides general laboratory services, including specimen receipt, order entry, blood component preparation, and pre-analytic processing.

The incumbent must have attention to detail, good organizational and computer skills, and strong teamwork abilities. A phlebotomy background and Indiana license requirements may apply.

Qualifications

• Requires HS diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred.
• Valid Indiana operator's license and good driving history may be required.
• Understanding of traffic laws in Indiana may be required.
• Proven understanding of computers.
• Telephone skills are required.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Responsibilities

• Receive specimens and enter orders.
• Process specimens and prepare blood components.
• Handle pre-analytic processing and related clerical tasks.
• Enter orders, confirm specimen validity, and manage faxes and phone calls.
