Qualifications

• Bi-lingual (oral and written) bi-cultural skills.
• Medical interpreting skills, including accuracy and memory.
• Satisfactory fluency in English and target language(s) at a level that ensures accurate interpretation.
• Satisfactory proficiency in medical terminology (anatomy, physiology, diagnostics).
• One year of interpreter experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Certification of completion of an Interpreter Program required; national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret clinically between clinician and patient in person or by phone.
• Serve as liaison between patients and staff; inform clinicians about cultural considerations.
• Provide coverage for Interpreter Services Coordinator when needed.
• Edit translated materials and assist with interpreter training as required.
• Assist with scheduling interpreters and coordinating patient appointments.

Successful candidates will need to have the ability to work well within a team environment.**Job Description:****Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):** 1. Medical interpreting between clinician and patient during face-to-face or telephone encounters. 2. Acts as a liaison between patients and staff. 3. Informs clinicians about cultural considerations when treating Spanish-speaking patients. 4. Interpreter for ancillary departments. 5. Interpreters between non-clinical staff and patients as needed. 6. Provides support and coverage for the Interpreter Services Coordinator as needed. 7. Edits translated materials. 8. Identifies areas where the hospital can better meet the needs of Spanish communities, i.e.., outreach, signage, etc. 9. Explains interpreter model to clinicians and patients. 10. Assists with training staff interpreters. 11. Orients patients to hospital as needed, i.e., L & D tours, community events, etc. 12. May perform on-call services on evenings and weekends/holidays. 13. May assist with Community Health classes needing a Spanish interpreter. 14. Performs other duties as needed.**DEPT. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:**1. Assists in the coordination/scheduling of interpreters.2. BA/BS preferred. 2. Bi-lingual (oral and written) bi-cultural skills. 3. Medical interpreting skills, including accuracy and memory. 4. Satisfactory fluency in English and target language(s) at a level that ensures accurate and understandable interpretation. Satisfactory proficiency in medical terminology (i.e., basic anatomy, physiology and diagnostic procedures and treatments) at a level that ensures accurate interpretation. 5. One year of experience working as an interpreter in a healthcare environment is preferred. 6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.7. Certification of completion of an Interpreter Program required. National certification preferred.**Physical Requirements & Environment:** 1. Normal office environment 2. Outpatient clinical environment with some exposure to infectious diseases and cleaning solutions. 3. Adherence to safety procedures minimizes the risk of injury. 4.
