Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking an interpreter to facilitate language services for patients and families. You will interpret requests, work with qualified interpreters, and translate materials such as pre-operative instructions, discharge papers, and patient education.

This onsite, part-time role (30 hours per week) is based at 75 Francis Street. The position includes day shifts, competitive hourly pay, and benefits information as described in the posting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a human relations field (e.g., sociology, psychology) is highly preferable.
  • Healthcare and/or medical interpreting experience (2-3 years) preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
  • Prior training in medical terminology and interpreting skills.
  • Knowledge of culture-specific care.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mediator to enhance communication between staff and patients/families in medical care.
  • Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters (location, duration, purpose).
  • Coordinate and train staff on telephone language interpretation services and equipment.
  • Answer calls promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Maintain professional appearance, conduct, and promptness in all interpreted situations.
  • Adhere to the standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.

Job Summary

Responsible for facilitating the successful delivery of services to patients and family members of various languages.

Follows requests for interpretation, collaborating with qualified auxiliary interpreters for comprehensive accommodation of interpretation requests. Provides translation service (both sight translation & written translation) of pertinent materials for patients and families, such as written information regarding relevant services, pre-operative, post-operative, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care materials. Essential Functions
  • Serve as a mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between staff and patients/family as it relates to medical care and adhere to the standard code of ethics for medical interpreters.
  • Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters to include relevant data such as location, duration, and purpose.

  • Answer calls promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Function in a manner appropriate to each interpreted situation, demonstrating professional appearance, conduct, and promptness.

Qualifications Qualifications
  • 1. Bachelors Degree with a concentration in a human relations field (i.e. Sociology, Psychology) highly preferable. High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2. Healthcare and/or medical interpreting experience 2-3 years preferred
  • 3. Fluency of English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
  • 4. Prior training of medical terminology and interpreting skills.
  • 5. Knowledge of culture-specific care.
