Job summary

The YORK CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Security / Safety officer to patrol district buildings and grounds, monitor student behavior, and assist during emergencies. The role requires de-escalation training, statutory clearances, and a PA driver's license.

You will respond to incidents, supervise events, and help maintain a safe environment for students and staff. Candidates should be prepared to participate in trainings, assist transportation duties when needed, and collaborate with school

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Patrol District buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
  • Patrol school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles.
  • Assist in maintaining proper student behavior in restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, on school grounds, at school events and at other areas as assigned.
  • Monitor hallways for proper identification (hall passes for students, visitor passes for non-employees).
  • Retrieve students from various classes as requested by staff (detention, discipline referrals).
  • Possible removal of students from property as requested.
  • Assist in maintaining general upkeep by reporting damage and removing debris.
  • Serve in various capacities at special events as directed by staff.
  • Assist students with upholding rules and regulations consistent with building goals.
  • Assist administrators, staff, and police in reporting incidents and identifying involved persons.
  • Conduct orientation tours for new students.
  • Maintain a daily log (e.g., incident reports).
  • Participate in all District trainings as required.
  • Attend appropriate training (e.g., passive restraints, CPR, conflict resolution).
  • Provide coverage for the Restorative Practices Room as needed.
  • Possible physical intervention in student altercations.
  • Wear District-approved security uniform when working.
  • Carry communication device and respond to calls promptly.
  • Transport students in District-owned vehicle as necessary.
  • Monitor students on a bus; ensure safety and order (seat belt usage).
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for students and staff.
  • Manage student behaviors and report discipline problems to appropriate Administrator.
  • Provide first aid if necessary.
  • Assist during emergencies and participate in evacuation planning and drills.
