Job summary

PediaStaff is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary student in a Shawnee, Kansas area school district. This is a full-time, school-based role following the school calendar.

The interpreter accompanies the student through the school day, facilitating communication and providing access to instruction across classrooms, playgrounds, assemblies, and field trips, while collaborating with teachers and staff to support student participation.

Qualifications

• EIPA certification, state licensure, or credentials as required by Kansas and district regulations.
• Previous school-based interpreting experience preferred.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of an elementary educational environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpreting services throughout the student's school day.
• Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers.
• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, school activities, and educational programming.
• Support communication access in a variety of settings including classrooms, playground activities, assemblies, and special events.
• Accompany the student during field trips and off-campus educational activities as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to support student participation and success.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in accordance with educational and ethical guidelines.
