Responsibilities

• Learns to read menu to estimate food requirements and order from supplier or storage.
• Prepares and cooks food in accordance with recipes.
• Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and steam kettles.
• Helps measure and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Bakes, roasts, broils and steam meats, fish, vegetables and other foods under guidance; adds seasoning.
• Tests food by tasting, smelling and piercing to ensure proper cooking.
• Carves meat, portions food and adds gravies and garnishes to fill orders.
• Washes, peels, cuts and shreds fruits and vegetables; butchers chicken, fish and shellfish as directed.
• Bakes bread, rolls, cakes and pastries as instructed.
• Maintains work area and equipment; follows sanitation and safety standards.
• Interacts with customers and coworkers in a courteous, efficient manner.
• Ensures compliance with service standards and inventory and cash control procedures.
