Job summary

UPMC Mercy is hiring for Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians in full-time roles. The positions involve 3 rotating 12-hour shifts starting at 7am or 7pm, with unit variations discussed during interview scheduling. Those without direct patient care experience may start as Nursing Assistant with corresponding salary.

A 3-day training course is required for those new to hospital care. Responsibilities include ADLs, vital signs, I&O, telemetry, EKGs, and specimen collection, under

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Patient Care Technician title must also have either 1 year of patient care experience or enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation or a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
• Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
• Successful completion of basic information system training.
• EMT or Paramedic preferred.

Responsibilities

• Routinely perform UPMC nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients).
• Assist with vitals, I&O, weights, and telemetry monitor applications.
• Apply simple dressings, 12-lead EKG, bladder scan, and collect specimens.
• Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in inpatient status.
• Document in the medical record and perform department clerical tasks as needed.
