Job summary

St Louis Catholic Church-Louisville is seeking a Facilities & Maintenance Manager to oversee the upkeep of parish buildings, grounds, and equipment. The role ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for worship, staff, parishioners, and visitors.

The position is full-time and hourly, with a 40-hour work week. Schedule includes Monday–Friday with occasional evenings, weekends, or special events as parish needs require.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of parish buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities.
  • Complete basic repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, HVAC, doors, locks, fixtures, and other building systems.
  • Inspect facilities regularly and identify maintenance, safety, and repair needs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and prioritize work based on urgency and parish needs.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers as needed.
  • Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and service calls.
  • Assist with building security and opening/closing facilities.

Position: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay Rate: $26-$32 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or special events as parish needs require.

Reports To: Parish Pastor

Position Summary

The Facilities & Maintenance Manager is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair, cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of parish buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities. This position helps ensure that the parish provides a safe, clean, functional, and welcoming environment for worship, ministry, staff, parishioners, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of parish buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities.
  • Complete basic repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, HVAC, doors, locks, fixtures, and other building systems as appropriate to skill level.
  • Inspect facilities regularly and identify maintenance, safety, and repair needs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and prioritize work based on urgency and parish needs.
  • Maintain church, parish offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, storage areas, and other parish facilities.
  • Perform lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, and other seasonal grounds maintenance.
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, equipment, and other items for Masses, meetings, parish programs, funerals, weddings, and special events.
  • Maintain and organize maintenance tools, equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Coordinate with and provide access to outside contractors and service providers as needed.
  • Monitor contractors performing work on parish property and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain appropriate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and service calls.
  • Assist with building security, opening and closing facilities, and responding to facility-related emergencies.
  • Follow parish safety procedures and applicable workplace requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support parish operations.
Emergency and On-Call Responsibilities

Due to the nature of parish facilities, the Maintenance Technician may be required to respond to urgent or emergency maintenance situations outside of the regular work schedule. On-call, emergency, evening, weekend, or holiday work will be scheduled or assigned as needed and will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour requirements.

Requirements
  • Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043).
  • Dependable, responsible, and responsive to facility needs.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general building maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to safely operate common hand, power tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine when a repair can be completed in-house or requires a qualified contractor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with clergy, staff, volunteers, parishioners, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, climb, bend, kneel, and perform other physical activities associated with building and grounds maintenance.
