Job summary

Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 is seeking a full-time paraeducator to provide instructional support in Autistic Support at Lebanon Junior High School. The role works under the supervision of the Special Education team to assist with instructional activities and student supervision. The schedule is 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 185 days per year.

Minimum salary is $20.00 per hour. Candidates must meet PA credential requirements or be willing to complete within six months;

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators (PA) or willingness to complete within 6 months.
  • Two years of postsecondary study with 48 credits, or an associated degree or higher.
  • Must meet a rigorous standard via an approved assessment within 6 months.
  • Verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions.
  • CPI, Safe Crisis Management or QBS certification as directed by program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support to the teacher and students under supervision.
  • Assist with classroom management and program delivery in Autistic Support.
  • Maintain safety and follow crisis intervention protocols as trained.
  • Assist with data entry, student documentation, and basic classroom routines.

Schedule: 7.50 Hours/Day (8:00 am-3:30 pm) Monday-Friday 185 Days/Year

PURPOSEOFPOSITION:

Theparaeducatorsassignedtospecialeducationclassesorprogramsprovideinstructionalsupporttotheteacher (instructional leader) and students and are under the general supervision of the program Supervisor of Special Education.

KNOWLEDGE&SKILLREQUIREMENTS:

EducationRequired: HighSchoolDiplomaorHighSchoolEquivalency

EffectiveJuly1,2010Alsomustmeetoneofthefollowingfourqualifications:

  • HavecompletedtheCredentialofCompetencyforSpecialEducationParaeducatorsthroughthePA Department of Education (or be willing to complete within 6 months of employment). A copy of the credential must be submitted within 30 days of hire or when received from PDE.
    • Havecompletedatleast2yearsofpostsecondarystudywithaminimumof48credithours.Copyof transcript required within 30 days of employment.
    • Possessanassociatedegreeorhigher.Copyofdegreeortranscriptsrequiredwithin30daysof employment.
    • Meetarigorousstandardofqualityasdemonstratedthroughanapprovedformofassessmentwithin6 months of employment.

AND

As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff developmentactivitiesrelatedtoposition.Pro-rationwillapplybasedondateofhirewithintheschoolyear.

ESSENTIALPHYSICALREQUIREMENT:

The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI),SafeCrisisManagement(SCM)orQualityBehaviorSupports(QBS)method,dependingonprogramneed, for which training will be provided.

Mustbeabletocontextuallyrun/sprintafter/toanelopingchildandbeabletohelpalearneroffthefloorshould they drop to the floor under their own power.
