Job summary

The Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 is seeking a Full-Time Personal Care Assistant/1:1 Paraeducator for Lebanon Junior High School. The role supports instructional, behavioral and personal care needs as defined by the student’s IEP, under the supervision of the classroom teacher and program supervisor.

The position runs for the school year, with a 6.5-hour day (8:30 am - 3:00 pm), 185 days per year, and a minimum salary of $20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must meet PDE qualifications within 6 months of hire.
• Credential or transcripts due within 30 days of hire.
• Provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development per school year.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support per IEP.
• Work under the direction of the classroom teacher and program supervisor.
• Assignment is for the school year and may terminate based on student needs.

PURPOSEOFPOSITION:

ThePersonalCareAssistant/1:1Paraeducator(SchoolAge)isassignedtoprovideinstructional,behavioraland personal care support as outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan.The assistant will be directed by the classroom teacher and is under the general supervision of the designated program supervisor.

TheassignmentofthePersonalCareAssistant/1:1Paraeducatorisforaschoolyearandcouldterminateatany time, based on student placement or needs.

KNOWLEDGE&SKILLREQUIREMENTS:

EducationRequired: HighSchoolDiplomaorHighSchoolEquivalency

EffectiveJuly1,2010–Alsomustmeetoneofthefollowingfourqualifications:

• Have completed the Credential of Competency for Special Education ParaeducatorsthroughthePADepartmentofEducation(orbewillingto completewithin6monthsofemployment).Acopyofthecredentialmust be submitted within 30 days of hire or when received from PDE.
• Have completed at least 2 years of postsecondary study with a minimumof48credithours.Copyoftranscriptrequiredwithin30days of employment.
• Possessanassociatedegreeorhigher.Copyofdegreeortranscripts required within 30 days of employment.
• Meetarigorousstandardofqualityasdemonstratedthroughan approved form of assessment within 6 months of

employment.

AND

As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidenceof20hoursofstaffdevelopmentactivitiesrelatedtoposition.Pro-ration will apply based on the date of hire within the school year.

The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI),SafeCrisisManagement(SCM)orQualityBehaviorSupports(QBS)method,dependingonprogramneed, for which training will be provided.

Mustbeabletocontextuallyrun/sprintafter/toanelopingchildandbeabletohelpalearneroffthefloorshould they drop to the floor under their own power.
