Job summary

Naugatuck Public Schools is seeking a Para Educator (Full-Time) at City Hill Middle School to work with students one-to-one or in small groups and reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher.

You will assist in preparing the classroom, maintaining materials and learning centers, and supporting arts and PE when appropriate. Attendance at PPT/IEP meetings and staff development is required as needed. A high school diploma and a commitment to working with diverse learners are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Warm, supportive personality for working with special needs children.
• Ability to respect the rights of all students and maintain confidentiality.
• Prior experience in a school or adolescent setting preferred.
• ParaPro options: 2 years of college credits or an Associate's degree or a score of 457 on the ParaPro Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Work with students one-to-one or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Prepare classroom for the beginning and end of the school year; maintain environment and learning centers.
• Reinforce skills taught in daily lessons and assist with transportation duties as assigned.
• Assist with art, music, physical education and other specials when appropriate.
• Attend PPT or IEP meetings as required and participate in staff meetings and professional development.
• Support daily health, medical and physical needs as needed; assist with classroom activities and field trips.
