Job summary

Bethesda Home of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, SD, seeks a dedicated culinary staff member to prepare meals for residents, following federal, state, and local standards and facility policies to promote resident satisfaction.

You will review menus, prepare meals, portion and plate items, and ensure sanitary compliance while collaborating with the facility dietitian and other departments. This role involves inventory, scheduling, and maintaining quality food service.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School education or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: None. On the job training provided
  • Shift: Full-Time or Part-Time
  • Schedule times: 6:00 AM-2:00 PM or 6:30 AM-2:30 PM, may shift between these times
  • Duties: Prepare food to standards and procedures; ensure quality and sanitary compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Review menus prior to preparation of food.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus.
  • Prepare short order items as requested.
  • Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations and established policies and procedures.
  • Complete prep work and stocking to acceptable levels.
  • Utilize production sheets and recipes for cold food inventory.
  • Rotate and date cold stock each morning.
  • Prepare meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Plate and garnish in an attractive manner.
  • Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus.
  • Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders.
  • Inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, family members, etc.
  • Assist to ensure that department personnel, residents, visitors follow culinary policies and procedures.
  • Work with the facility dietitian as necessary and implement changes as required.
  • Ensure appropriate quality and quantity of food served.
  • Assist in standardizing methods.
  • Supervise culinary personnel in absence of Director of Culinary Services.
  • Liaison with other department supervisors to plan for culinary services.
  • Coordinate culinary service with other departments as necessary.
  • Report complaints and grievances to the Director of Culinary Services.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning duties per policies.
  • Date and store left over food per policy.
  • Dispose of food and waste per policies.
  • Ensure food storage areas are clean and properly arranged.
  • Daily inspections of work areas for cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
  • Ensure food and supplies for next meal are available.
  • Report discrepancies to the Director of Culinary Services.
  • Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food and supplies.

  • Report complaints and grievances to the Director of Culinary Services.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Date and store left over food according to policy and procedures.
  • Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
  • Ensure that food storage areas are clean and properly arranged at all times.
  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned work areas to assure that cleanliness and sanitary conditions are maintained.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Report discrepancies to the Director of Culinary Services.
  • Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc., as necessary.
PAY AND BENEFITS:

Starting Pay: $16.20/hour; wage dependent on experience
