Job summary

Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, VA seeks a full-time mathematics faculty member (9-month) to teach mathematics courses across campus and online as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Ability to design and implement curricula that align elements of student learning to the student’s educational goals.
  • Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varied academic competencies.
  • Knowledge of methods to effectively teach mathematics through various means of distance learning.
  • Ability to learn and utilize various technologies for communication, organization of data and course materials, presentations, etc.
  • Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
  • Knowledge of and experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for group or one-on-one settings.
  • Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time faculty responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 – 20 credit hours per semester, which may include a mixture of day and night classes.
  • Suffolk, Franklin, Smithfield campuses and online.
  • May include work during the day, evening, or weekends, as needed by the institution during the academic year.
  • Teaching: Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject.
  • Scholarly and Creative Engagement: Engage in scholarly and/or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, participation in professional organizations, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
  • Institutional Responsibility: Performing assigned or presumed duties according to one’s role at the college. These activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college.
  • Service: Quality participation and commitment to students, college and/or community organizations, which is an expectation of one’s activities as a professional educator.
