Job description

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Two to five years of related experience with a good work record. Ability to perform general labor duties, follow directions, and show respect. Ability to safely use and maintain equipment, trucks and vehicles, hand tools, and power tools, following all safety regulations. Possess and maintain a valid CDL driver’s license and be insurable through the City’s insurance. Ability to be on 24-hour call as needed by management. Effective communication skills with the public, co-workers, and management. Individuals posing a threat to themselves or others will be deemed unqualified for the position.

Preferred Certifications: Bloodborne Pathogens

Essential Functions

• Parks: Grounds maintenance of City parks and properties including mowing, weeding, fertilizing, aerating, planting shrubs and flowers, tree trimming, maintaining playing fields and playground equipment, litter collection, restroom cleaning, safety checks and minor repairs on playground equipment, minor building repairs, and event setup and teardown.

Service: Maintain City streets and roads, plowing snow and applying salt for ice control, cleaning and digging ditches, laying drain pipes, assisting with masonry projects, performing road repairs, berm repair, roadside mowing, leaf and brush collection, and landscaping. Also includes vehicle and equipment maintenance, working overtime as needed, and working with various crews.

Physical Demands and Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk.
• Clear verbal communication skills.
• Ability to climb into confined spaces and ladders.
• Lift at least 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• Work may involve emergency situations, noise, dust, pollutants, noxious fumes, unsanitary and hazardous conditions, heavy lifting, and outdoor work in all weather. Personal protective equipment is provided by the City.
