Job summary

Mesquite ISD is seeking a Special Education Assistant for Life Skills at the Poteet campus. The role supports the classroom teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities and helps implement individualized programs.

Responsibilities include preparing materials, assisting with activities, and supervising students during the day. Strong teamwork, patience with children, and reliability are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• None required; some experience with children preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the teacher in preparing instructional materials and displays.
• Assist with the instructional program under supervision by a certified teacher.
• Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Assist students with physical disabilities, including transfers and positioning.
• Attend to students' personal care needs, including feeding and hygiene.
• Help supervise students during lunch, bus, and playground times.
• Support substitute teachers and participate in staff meetings and events.
• Maintain confidentiality and perform other duties as assigned.
