Job summary

Skokie Public Library is seeking a full-time Custodian to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming space at the heart of our community. You will support our mission by keeping all areas spotless, assisting with programs, and performing light maintenance as needed.

The role requires physical activity, flexibility in schedule including weekends, and a commitment to excellent customer service in a diverse community.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial and maintenance experience.
• Ability to perform the physical tasks listed under Working Conditions.
• Strong teamwork and customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate in another language relevant to the Skokie community.
• Building repair experience.
• Previous use of electrical and mechanical tools/equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of all areas: sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean glass surfaces.
• Sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recycling.
• Set up and arrange furniture for programs and events.
• Perform light maintenance, including lighting checks and minor repairs.
• Care for outdoor grounds: mow, weed, prune, and clear snow/ice.
• Make deliveries and assist with library operations as needed.
• Follow library policies and ensure reliable, punctual attendance.
