Job summary

South Middlesex Opportunity Council, Inc. in Worcester, MA seeks a Cook Assistant to support the meals program under the supervision of the Lead Cook or Kitchen Manager.

You will help ensure food quality, inventory, safety guidelines, and customer service for guests, volunteers, and staff. This full-time role requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds, with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM (35 hours weekly).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or demonstrated kitchen experience.
• Serv-Safe training or food safety training preferred.
• Commitment to SMOC's mission and programs.

Responsibilities

• Supports a cost-effective program through planning and proper use of food and equipment.
• Assists in preparation and distribution of food as directed by Kitchen Manager.
• Maintains sanitation and safety standards while serving as Food Services Assistant.
• Keeps Dining Room clean and presentable for Guests, Volunteers and Staff.
• Delivers accurate reporting of in-kind contributions as required by grants.
• Works with volunteers and staff to foster a positive work environment.
• Reports safety issues to the Manager on Duty and supports client engagement.
• Attends team meetings and communicates effectively with clients and staff.
• Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information per laws and funder requirements.
• Follows program, department, and funder requirements and SMOC policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
