Job summary

Capital Area Intermediate Unit in Enola, PA seeks a qualified educational interpreter to provide signing and transliteration services in K-12 classrooms under student IEPs.

This full-time, day-shift role follows CAIU's salary schedule, requires a Bachelor's degree and a strong EIPA score, and involves collaboration with teachers, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting Deaf or Hard of Hearing students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3.5 (4.0 preferred) on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).
  • Ability to interpret/transliterate in ASL and PSE.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting/transliterating in all situations according to the specifications of the student’s IEP.
  • Provide interpreting/transliterating for school sponsored activities for staff and/or adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH).
  • Adhere to CAIU policy related to student confidentiality in all settings.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all ethical areas, especially in applying the RID Code of Professional Conduct to the educational setting when providing interpretation/transliteration.
  • Participate in the development and presentation of orientations for general education staff and students regarding hearing loss and the role and use of an educational interpreter.
