Position Information





























Starting salary is dependent on education, directly related experience and internal equity. After completing the second probationary semester, the potential exists to earn additional compensation by teaching overload and spring/summer sessions. This additional compensation varies based on several factors, including educational level and step. For example, a faculty member with a Master' s degree at Step 0 who teaches 10 hours of overload during the fall and winter semesters would earn an additional $18,000. Position Summary Information













1. A Master's degree Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Management
Information Systems or a related degree that has a minimum of 18 graduate hours in teaching area
from an accredited college or university.
2. Current computer industry-related certification, with preference given to software, network and
hardware certifications.
3. Higher Education teaching experience.
4. Familiarity with the use of computer-based instruction, distance learning, learning technologies,
competency-based instruction or modularized courseware.




1. The employee must be able to move about 2/3 of the time and be stationary about 1/3 of the time. They are required to be mobile around campus for participant involvement/activities
2. They must be able to converse with individuals on a regular basis with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret their needs via video or phone conversations, face-to-face conversations, or written documentation.
3. The employee must be able to utilize all programs on a computer independently and efficiently (particularly the internet, Word, and the student database).
4. They must be able to present information in an instructional setting and respond to questions from groups.




Although full-time faculty are obligated to teach during fall and winter, the nature of their full-time job requires them to perform many of their professional responsibilities year-round.

Faculty are required to make provisions for student consultations as may be necessary and reasonable.

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job:
Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness (pedagogy). As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan. Where applicable, faculty maintain licensure and certifications. In addition, full-time faculty have the following key responsibilities which are described more fully below in the Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities section:

Specific Teaching Assignment:
Information Technology Faculty members are responsible for teaching courses in COMC, COMG, COMI, COMS, COMN, COMO, COMW designations based on areas of expertise, course availability and a seniority selection process. Classes include theory, laboratory and practice following college approved course objectives.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Faculty are sometimes called upon to perform quasi-supervisory responsibilities, particularly in their role as Coordinators and mentors of work study students.
Minimum Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems or closely related degree from an accredited college or university, with 30 credits of computer related coursework.

  2. Two (2) years of practical experience needed in the field of computers, such as programmer or network administrator.

  3. Commitment to Community College Teaching:

    1. Demonstrates understanding and dedication to the mission and philosophy of community colleges.

    2. Innovative and Flexible Teaching

    3. Employs a positive and adaptable teaching style, understanding the diverse needs of students.




  4. Language Skills:

    1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

    2. Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

    3. Effective in presenting information and responding to questions from students, high school administrators, teachers, advisors, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.3.



  5. Mathematical Skills:

    1. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    2. Proficient in mathematical concepts like probability and statistical inference.



  6. Reasoning Ability:

    1. Capable of solving practical problems and dealing with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

    2. Able to interpret diverse instructions provided in digital, written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.



  7. Technology Skills:
    1. Proficient in integrating computer applications into teaching.


  8. Other Skills and Abilities:

    1. Apply current research and theory to instructional programs.

    2. Plan and implement lessons based on division and college objectives, tailored to the needs and abilities of assigned students.

    3. Establish and maintain collegial relationships with students, peers, staff, and administrators.

    4. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
