Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS) is seeking a Full-Time Infection Control Coordinator/Trainer/Educator at Sussex Community Corrections Center in Georgetown, DE. The RN will manage the infection control program and mentor staff while ensuring compliance with national infection control standards in healthcare facilities.

The Nurse Educator role supports preceptors, collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, and upholds high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
• Active CPR certification.
• Bachelor’s prepared nurse with infection control certification (APIC/SHEA) within six months.

Responsibilities

• Orients, educates, mentors, and supports nursing staff.
• Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
• Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions and side effects.
• Record patients’ medical information and vital signs.
• Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients’ condition.
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions.
• Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
• Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel or supervise a particular unit.
• Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
• Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, and childbirth as well as develop health improvement programs.
• Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s condition.
• Additional duties as assigned by facility.

INFECTION CONTROL / REGISTERED NURSE (RN) POSITION SUMMARY

An Infection Control / Registered Nurse (RN) delivers quality care consistent within the scope of practice as outlined by the local state nurse practice act for Registered Nurses. The Infection Control RN works in accordance with local practice acts and regulations, delegates and ensures supervision of nursing activities and functions to other competent nursing personnel appropriate to their scope of practice. The Infection Control RN will manage the responsibilities of the Infection Control Program and maintain national standards for infection control in healthcare at all facilities. The Infection Control RN will provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment, and help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections.

REGISTERED NURSE TRAINER EDUCATOR POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Educator supports and mentors preceptors to effectively orient new staff members. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to meet the educational needs of staff to promote quality patient outcomes. Demonstrates advanced clinical and communication skills. A registered Nurse (RN) delivers quality care consistent within the scope of practice as outlined by the local state nurse practice act. The RN works in accordance with local practice acts and regulations and delegates and ensures supervision of nursing activities and functions to other competent nursing personnel appropriate to their scope of practice. The RN assumes responsibility and accountability for the quality of care delivered; works to ensure a safe environment for themselves, the patient, and other staff members. The RN acts as a patient advocate to promote the quality of health care delivered in the facility and always serves as a leader to promote best practices within the profession of nursing.

INFECTION PREVENTIONIST & TRAINER/EDUCATOR/ REGISTERED NURSE (RN) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
• Possesses an active CPR certification.
• Remains knowledgeable about specific state laws and regulations governing practice.
• Satisfactory completion of initial and annual clinical competencies to demonstrate aptitude as assigned by role.
• Must be a bachelor’s prepared (or higher) nurse with experience in healthcare infection control, who possesses (or obtains within six months of hire) certification in infection control from a nationally recognized organization such as the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) or Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).
• Experience conducting staff training or leading educational initiatives a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a secure and structured environment.
