Sisters-of-St.-Franci in Stella Niagara, NY, is seeking a Housekeeper/Laundry Assistant. The role focuses on cleaning public areas and private living spaces across the convent, Center of Renewal, and health facilities, performing laundry tasks and operating machines.

This full-time, 40-hour-per-week position offers non-exempt status and requires occasional weekend/evening/holiday coverage. The site emphasizes teamwork and attention to schedule.

• Orders cleaning supplies when necessary.
• Requests maintenance help for heavy items over 50 lbs.
• Provides weekend/evening/holiday coverage as needed.
• Works as a team, respecting resident privacy.

General Summary:

This position is non-exempt and is primarily responsible for the efficient performance of institutional housekeeping/laundry tasks both alone and as a member of the Housekeeping/Laundry team.

Accountability:

The Housekeeper/Laundry Assistant will be accountable to the Director of Operations.

Essential Functions: 100%

1. 1. Cleans public areas in the school, convent, Center of Renewal and/or Health Center, at the request of the Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor.
2. 2. Cleans private living areas (including bedrooms, bathrooms, showers and kitchens) in the convent, Health Center, Center of Renewal and Ormsby Hall.
3. 3. Responsible for the operation of all machines located within the laundry, including the washing machine, wringer, dryer and iron.
4. 4. Performs all tasks assigned, including taking orders and executing them in a timely and professional manner.
5. 5. Ability to read directions and communicate both orally and in writing sufficiently to preform job.
6. 6. Attends monthly staff meetings and periodic in-service training sessions, when schedule permits.
7. 7. Operate housekeeping and laundry equipment and work with large machines.
8. 8. Orders cleaning supplies internally when necessary.
9. 9. Determines and requests assistance from the Maintenance Department in moving heavy furniture, weighing 50 lbs. or more, when necessary.
10. 10. Provides weekend/evening/holiday coverage when requested by the Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor in advance.
11. 11. Able to work as a team with fellow employees, respecting the privacy of the Sister residents and guests.
12. 12. Must have the ability to accept directions, perform several tasks at once, adhere to a schedule and execute a task from reception to the delivery of a completed service.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to cleaning fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on campus. The noise level in some work environments can be loud.

The employee frequently interacts with other staff members and Sister Residents requiring professional confidence.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, 40 hours a week. Hours of work vary: Typically, Monday - Friday 3pm - 11pm

may include rotating weekends and rotating holidays may also be required as job duties demand. If this occurs, working hours are adjusted.
